About this Event
This is a great 5K for runners, walkers, and families. We have both a USATF certified 5K course (TX14114ETM) and 1-mile kid’s fun run.

All Proceeds go to Bel Inizio
Race proceeds go to Bel Inizio (www.bel-inizio.org). Bel Inizio, a 501(c)(3), helps women living in transitional housing improve to their self-esteem and life skills through exercise and nutrition education. Bel Inizio participants make a commitment to complete the program then work hard to keep their word by training for and completing their first 5K, The Bel Inizio Race for Better Life 5K will have many Bel Inizio graduates participating! Your additional donation of $25 will help a Bel Inizio client complete her first 5K in her personal race for a better life.

Announcer & DJ
Kevin Kline of Snowdrop Foundation and the 93 Q Morning Zoo Co-Host will be the announcer for the Bel Inizio Race for a Better Life 5K and Kid’s 1 mile Fun Run!

Dj Seduction – DJ for the Houston Marathon and IronMan Texas will be our DJ!

Race T-shirt
The Race for a Better Life t-shirt is available to all registrants and will be distributed at packet pick up. Shirts are 100% cotton, unisex sizing (Adult – small thru XXL, Children’s small – large). Check out the great design at http://www.Bel-Inizio.org. Please, do not ask at packet pick up to change sizes. We order according to what you choose when registering. Late registrants are not guaranteed requested shirt size but we will do our best!

Timeline
7 am – Packet Pick Up
8 am – 5K start
9 am – Kids Mile for ages 12-and-under
9:30 am – Awards ceremony and raffle for race entries, sports tickets, gift certificates, a pair of ASICS running shoes, RoadID certificates, and other items. Preliminary race results will be posted at the race site.

Great Race Party…FUN
Great party at the finish line. We plan to have hot coffee, cookies, bananas, bagels, and breakfast tacos.

Time Limit
The time limit for completion is 1 hour, 30 minutes for all competitors. We cannot safely allow longer than this per Sugar Land Police Department.

Medical provided by Run Safe with Mikey
Mikey, age 11, collapsed at the finish line of a charity run in December 2013. A nurse who was watching the race performed CPR while 911 was called. CPR was performed for nearly three hours. Mikey was airlifted to the hospital, where he was placed on life support. He was declared brain dead the following morning. The cause of Mikey’s death was right coronary artery anomaly. An electrocardiogram 2 years prior did not detect this, although Mikey was having symptoms. As a result we established Run Safe With Mikey a nonprofit charity raising awareness and the importance of CPR training and providing funding for onsite ambulance services for athletic events.

Field Limit
The field limit for this race is 300 entrants for safety.

Chip Timing
Race will be chip timed and preliminary results will be posted on the wall upon finish. You must wear your chip to be scored. Chips are handed out at Packet Pickup to avoid long lines on race morning. Chips are picked up at the finish line. If you do not return your chip you will be charged $25.

Packet Pickup / Late Registration
November 7, 2014 from 10am-6pm only at Finish Line Sports in Sugar Land (13895 SW Freeway). Directions: Take 59 South to Sugar Creek Blvd exit, left under freeway, another left into our strip center. Finish Line Sports is two doors from the back corner of the Shell Station http://www.slfinishlinesports.com is our website.

Race Morning registration and packet pick up will be available starting at 7:00am at race site.

Parking
Plenty of space is available at Sugar Land Memorial Park. Volunteers will be available to direct you. The race will begin near the pavilion immediately to the right when you drive in. Additional parking is further ahead to the left. Please do not park in front of the dog park.
